Hi everyone,
Welcome back to the blog and a big welcome to Tommy’s Chewsdays (Tuesdays in human language). Tommy is our family dog. He is very much a tai chi dog with a black coat of fur and a tiny spot of white on his chest.
Tommy is a rescue dog that we adopted 5 years ago when he was just 12 weeks old. He is a Sharpei cross along with (we suspect) Kelpie, Labrador and maybe something else. He likes being outside on the verandah and in the yard but also enjoys being inside the house with his family.
He is very loving, fun and always alert to sounds and different smells. He is also quite regal as Sharpeis were bred to protect the emperor. He often sits with a benign look on his face as if he is ruling master of the house..or car.
Today my daughter and I took Tommy down to the beach to stretch his legs. It is beautiful right now and very relaxing taking a walk down at the local beach. The sky is so blue and water crystal clear in winter, even more sparkly than summer due to cold nights and brisk mornings.
Remarkably it was pretty quiet on the beach. It was lovely just breathing in new, fresh warm air and breathing out all the stale old air from the day before. Tommy was happy too as he hasn’t been to the beach for a few days, eagerly running into the waves a few times to feel the water on his chest and legs. Very refreshing.
We walked north and then headed back south for 45 minutes or so with Tommy trotting ahead. It felt nice walking on sand without shoes, the sand grains scrunching underfoot and between toes. Sitting on the sand with Tommy, watching the waves lap in and pull out over and over was soothing and calming. A great walk for all of us.
The ride home is always a treat for Tommy as he gets to see cars go by and people walking around. We had to slow down as the police were doing random breath tests by the side of the road. Usually, cars are waived to the side and drivers blow into a breathalyzer bag to check if you’ve consumed too much alcohol. However, the police officer took one look in the back seat, his eyebrow lifted up and motioned for us to keep driving on.
“That’s great!!”, my daughter laughed. “Once he saw Tommy, he moved us on. He probably thought Tommy would get too excited. Thanks heaps Tommy!” Tommy just smiled.
Yep, Chews-days with Tommy can be filled with laughs.
Have a good week everybody.
